Fountain Avenue Land Use Improvement and Residential Project
The Fountain Avenue Land Use and Residential Project is a 1.2 million square foot development currently in construction on surplus property at the former Brooklyn Developmental Center in East New York. The project, which is being developed by the Arker Companies, is comprised of approximately 1,169 units of housing available to low-income residents earning up to 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI). The project includes units for seniors and for the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). The project also includes the creation of Schroeders Walk, a new one-acre open space that would extend Schroeders Avenue for pedestrians. The development, known as Fountains, will also include retail and commercial space on the ground floor, off-street parking, community facilities, and a public plaza, in addition to the residential component. The Arker Companies will partner with the Disability Opportunity Fund and the Block Institute, to develop the buildings and provide supportive services for residents served by OPWDD.
