The FIFA World Cup 2026™ will bring communities across New York State together through free public events, local partnerships, and long-term investments in youth sports infrastructure.
As announced by Governor Kathy Hochul, New York State will host two free, large-scale World Cup community viewing events on Long Island and in the Mid-Hudson Region to ensure communities across the state can share in this historic global moment. The free events will take place on June 12 at Stony Brook University on Long Island and July 19 at Kensico Dam Plaza in Westchester County. Led by New York State and Empire State Development, the family-friendly outdoor gatherings will give New Yorkers the opportunity to experience the excitement of the tournament close to home.
In addition, on January 16, 2026, Governor Hochul announced the New York State Community World Cup Grant Program to support regional World Cup watch parties and locally led public viewing events beyond the tournament’s host venues. On April 3, 2026, Governor Hochul announced the 12 community-based projects across seven regions selected for funding through the program.
Building on Governor Hochul’s Get Offline, Get Outside initiative, the Governor also advanced NY Kicks: A World Cup Legacy Investment Fund to expand youth soccer infrastructure in underinvested communities. The initiative will support field improvements, programming, training, and equipment to help ensure the tournament leaves a lasting impact for young players across New York.
Together, these efforts reflect New York State’s commitment to expanding access, strengthening communities, and creating a lasting World Cup legacy statewide.
