Empire State Development (ESD) today announced the completion of a $476,000 equipment upgrade at Diamondback RediMix's Staten Island facility. This project, involving the installation of cutting-edge stone recycling equipment, enhances the company's capacity to produce eco-friendly low-carbon concrete while creating five new jobs. The upgrade positions Diamondback RediMix to meet the rising demand for lowering the carbon footprint of concrete used in New York City's municipal projects, fostering a greener future for the construction industry.

Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Hope Knight said, "Empire State Development is proud to support Diamondback RediMix's investment in state-of-the-art recycling technology. This modernization creates good-paying jobs on Staten Island while strengthening New York's leadership in sustainable construction. By supporting companies that adopt green technologies, we're building a cleaner, more prosperous future for New York State."

Diamondback Redi-Mix President John DiFazio, said, "We are grateful for Empire State Development's support in bringing this project to fruition. This new equipment allows us to significantly enhance our “ECO MIX CONCRETE™” product line, reducing waste and increasing recycling opportunities. It's a win-win for our business and the environment."

For more than two decades, Diamondback RediMix has been a provider of recycling and construction materials services in New York City and New Jersey, serving a diverse clientele including city and state agencies, private customers, and utility companies. To meet rising demand and enhance sustainability, Diamondback RediMix has installed a state-of-the-art "rock wood separator" at its Staten Island facility. This advanced machine efficiently cleans stone and removes potentially harmful materials including wood and plastic, which are then recycled. The process not only yields cleaner, recycled stone for concrete production but also significantly reduces emissions and energy consumption.

Empire State Development supported this facility upgrade with a $95,000 capital grant, as recommended by the New York City Regional Economic Development Council. By minimizing the environmental impact associated with traditional quarrying activities, the new equipment bolsters Diamondback Redi-Mix's innovative “ECO MIX CONCRETE™” product line and paves the way for a more sustainable method of concrete production.

NYCREDC Co-Chairs Félix V. Matos Rodríguez, City University of New York Chancellor and William D. Rahm said, "The completion of Diamondback RediMix's facility upgrade exemplifies how public-private partnerships can drive sustainable development. This investment strengthens a longstanding local business while advancing our region's commitment to reducing emissions and promoting innovation in construction. By modernizing local industries, we're building a more resilient, eco-conscious economy in New York City."

This upgrade marks a significant milestone in Diamondback RediMix's efforts to modernize operations and meet the growing demand for eco-friendly construction materials. By creating jobs and enhancing the production of low-carbon footprint concrete, this investment strengthens the company's position in securing New York City municipal projects that prioritize efficient, low-carbon-footprint concrete. ESD's support for this initiative advances New York's commitment to sustainable economic growth while reinforcing the state's leadership in driving innovative, eco-friendly building practices.
