Census 2000 Summary 100% Data Profiles

The Census Bureau released computer files containing detailed tabulations of the questions asked of every census respondent (the 100% or short-form questions).  This includes information about age, race, Hispanic Origin, sex, household relationship, and housing occupancy for all geographic areas in the state down to the smallest block.

Revised Population & Housing Unit Counts

The Census Bureau has announced that they will not revise the data included in  American FactFinder or any report from the 2000 census.  Users of this system need to look at the documents listed above for revised data.

A series of profiles have been produced from these files for the standard geographic units of the state, counties, cities, towns, villages, Census Designated Places (CDPs) – which are unincorporated village-like areas -- and American Indian Reservations.  Additionally, they have been prepared for metropolitan areas (as they were defined in January 2000), Congressional Districts of the 106th Congress, and approximations of ZIP codes (known as ZIP Code Tabulation Areas or ZCTAs).  For more details about ZCTAs, see the U.S. Census Bureau’s web site.

We do not have the information needed to produce these profiles for school districts. The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) is expected to release those sometime during 2003.

Section 1 Profiles provide a general overview of each geographic area showing general distributions and limited cross-tabulations of the topics covered in this dataset.

Section 2 Profiles contain data on: single-year of age by sex for persons under 20 years old, household relationship by age, type of group quarters by age and sex, counts of households by various household types, occupied housing units by household size, and occupied housing units by household type.

Section 3 Profiles contain counts of the total population and females by age and major racial Hispanic group.  The age categories shown are single year of age for 0 through 21, 5 year age groups from 0 to 4 through 85 plus, and several broader age groups.  Median age by sex and major racial Hispanic group also is shown.

Section 5 Profiles contain a variety of characteristics by repeated by race.  Due to the size of these profiles, we have only produced them for a New York State total, the counties, metropolitan areas, Congressional Districts, and New York City.  They can be produced on a special request basis for other areas.  Contact the New York State Data by e-mail or by phone at 518-292-5300.

Section 6 Profiles contain detailed information about the group quarters population.

Zip Code Tabulation Areas

ZCTAs -- provide data for approximations of ZIP codes.  These files are grouped by the first three digits of the ZCTA and contain all five-digit ZCTAs within that three-digit area. More information about ZCTAs can be found on the Census Bureau’s website.
