The strength of Central New York lies in its diverse economy, with sectors ranging from healthcare to education, advanced manufacturing, financial services and transportation.   While the region has a manufacturing legacy, over the past decade it has developed particular strength and expertise in emerging clusters such as bio, bioprocessing and medical devices, as well as electronic and wireless devices such as sensors, radar and information technologies.  In addition, the region is quickly becoming a national leader in the area of clean tech, particularly related to renewable energy and environmental systems. 
 
Major businesses are choosing New York to locate and expand their operations. To remain competitive, New York State has implemented progressive economic development strategies and aggressive financial and tax incentives to stimulate growth and job creation.
 
We are particularly proud that Central New York is home to many outstanding and internationally known employers such as Syracuse University, Bristol Myer-Squibb, Lockheed Martin, Anheuser-Busch, BorgWarner Morse, Crucible Materials, Welch Allyn, Marquardt Switches, Sunoco and Sensis.  These companies have located here for many reasons, one of which is that our regional workforce is 20 percent more educated than the national average.  In addition, Central New York's workforce is consistently rated as one of the most highly productive nationally.
